It's Day time in KC

Singer/songwriter Chloe Day remembers the day in fourth grade when she learned how to make mixed cassette tapes from songs on the radio.

"It was like magic," she recalled on chloeday .com.

"Not just how you could catch all your favorites, but when you put the right ones together you felt like you somehow added to them, like the whole was greater than the sum. I was totally enthralled."

Yet it wasn't until the grown-up Day moved from her native St. Louis to Los Angeles that she began creating her own lyrically biting, high-voiced pop evolving from her lingering affection for electronica.

"I was always into electronica," she told St. Louis radio station WVRV-FM. "And I was listening to a lot of the artists in L.A. that broke right around when I moved there."

Two indie albums later ("The Return Of…" and "Pixie Runway"), Day's quirky yet catchy tunes have been heard on MTV's "Score" reality show.

And her music continues to make inroads on radio. Seize the opportunity to see Day at 10:30 tonight at the Gaslight Tavern, 317 N. Second St., in Lawrence. Call the club at (785) 856-4330.
